  • Anuradhapura Era (377 BCE – 1017 CE): This period saw the rise of Sri Lanka’s first capital city, Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Prominent kings like King Dutugemunu (161-137 BCE) united the nation and expanded Buddhism.
  • Polonnaruwa Era (1070 – 1232 CE): This period followed the Chola invasion, with King Parakramabahu I (1153-1186 CE) leading advancements in agriculture and infrastructure.
  • Kandy Era (1592 – 1815 CE): The Kingdom of Kandy resisted European colonization for centuries. King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha was the last king before British colonization in 1815.

  1. Portuguese (1505 – 1658): Established control over coastal regions and spread Christianity.
